Political Equality for Women

This is 21st century. We must practice the democracy and gender mainstreaming in the political process. I don’t think increasing reserved seats in parliament will increase the self respect of women. Rather it will aver the weakness and disqualification of women to withstand men. We are dreaming for such a Bangladesh, where women will fight for 300 parliamentary seats simultaneously with their quality in direct election. So, why are we crying just for one third? Moreover, one third doesn’t mean equality. Equality only means fifty-fifty. I oppose the term ‘patriarchal political system’ as we’re blessed with three times women prime ministers. This is not out of confessing that- leading capability is a different thing. A leader is to represent root level peoples as well as high level ones. She or He is to be visionary, responsive, participatory and much more. A famous or a learned person can’t always be a good leader, or just giving places coercing to women will not solve the problem.
